Google Play Store

To publish your branded app to the Google Play Store, you need a Google Play developer account. We publish the app under your own account, so your business owns the app listing.

Which account type to choose

We recommend registering as an Organisation so the app is listed under your business name. You can register as a personal account, but an organisation account is better suited to a business.

What you’ll need

For an organisation account, Google asks for:

  • Your legal business name and contact details
  • A D-U-N-S number for your business (free from Dun & Bradstreet, see below)
  • A Google account to register with, ideally a shared business email such as developer@yourbusiness.co.nz

Cost

Google charges a one-time USD $25 registration fee. There is no annual renewal.

Steps

  1. Create or sign in with a Google account for your business.
  2. Go to the Google Play Console and start registration.
  3. Choose the Organisation account type.
  4. Provide your D-U-N-S number. If you don’t have one, request it from Dun & Bradstreet first. It’s free and can take a few days to issue.
  5. Pay the one-time $25 fee.
  6. Complete Google’s identity and business verification.

Verification can take a few days. Once your account is verified, we’ll guide you through giving us access so we can build and publish your app. See App Transfer for the details we need.
