Apple Developer

To publish your branded app to the Apple App Store, you need an Apple Developer account. We publish the app under your own account, so your business owns the app listing and the customer relationship.

Which account type to choose

We recommend enrolling as an Organization. This lists the app under your business name rather than a personal name, and lets multiple people manage it.

You can enrol as an Individual, but the app will be listed under your personal name and only that Apple ID can manage it.

What you’ll need

For an Organization account, Apple asks for:

  • A legal entity name that matches your company registration
  • A D-U-N-S number for your business (free from Dun & Bradstreet, see below)
  • Your business website
  • Authority to sign legal agreements on behalf of the company

Cost

The Apple Developer Program costs USD $99 per year.

Steps

  1. Create an Apple ID for your business, using a shared email address such as developer@yourbusiness.co.nz rather than a personal account.
  2. Turn on two-factor authentication for that Apple ID. Apple requires it.
  3. If you don’t already have a D-U-N-S number, request one through Apple’s lookup tool. It’s free and can take a few days to issue.
  4. Enrol at developer.apple.com/programs and pay the annual fee.
  5. Apple verifies your organisation. This usually takes a couple of days.

Once your account is approved, we’ll guide you through giving us access so we can build and publish your app. See App Transfer for the details we need.
